Leisure Activities Insurance
Aiding the pursuit of leisure
Whilst leisure activities may be relaxing for visitors, they can be anything but for the owners. At Travelers, we’re looking to support leisure businesses that are devoted to providing the best possible experiences for visitors or members. Clubs, sporting destinations and tea/coffee shops can require forethoughts for a wide variety of needs and scenarios.
We’ll work to ensure we are a good fit for individual businesses. Along with our risk management team, our underwriters can help anticipate areas where additional assurances and plans are needed to further protect our clients and their visitors.

General questions
These questions will give you a sense of the information needed to write a policy.
- Does the business have modern purpose-built or purpose-converted premises?
- Is the business in close proximity to a full-time fire brigade?
- Is there a written and tested business continuity programme (to an expected high standard)? Although offices can often transition to ‘work from home’ or ‘work from anywhere’ scenarios, there are still risks from interruptions to their business. What might those be in this case?
- Is there an automatic fire detection to L2 with a central station connection for larger office risks based in large office blocks?
- Is there an additional fire risk from onsite canteens and similar? If so, these should be carefully underwritten, and appropriate duct cleaning/fire suppression in place.
- Access control
- What is the documented process and schedule for:
- Fixed electricals and portable appliance testing?
- Documented maintenance and cleaning programmes?
- Documented waste removal programmes?
- Smoking controls?
- Regularly reviewing and testing of business continuity plan?
- Is there a fully certified health and safety officer?
- Are 80%+ staff permanent employees?
- Is this a low stress trade?
- Are there comprehensive and documented processes for:
- Onboarding staff and induction programmes?
- Role specific training?
- Care of substances hazardous to health (COSHH)?
- Manual handling procedures with appropriate training?
- Provision and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) with mandatory usage where appropriate?
- Occupational health monitoring?
- Noise assessments?
- Accident reporting and monitoring?
- Are there documented and regularly reviewed risk assessments and safe operating procedures, including:
- Appropriate visitor guidelines?
- Traffic movement?
- Processes in place to identify and mitigate Legionella risk?
- Are there other facilities that may increase the professional liability risk such as onsite gymnasium and/or restaurant facilities open to the public?
- Construction of buildings?
- Fire suppression?
- Amenities?
- Restaurant or food service operations?
- Accommodation or hotel?
Let's get specific
These are the kinds of detailed questions we will ask to better understand day-to-day operations.
- Is this a private members club?
- How many active members are there?
- How long has the club been established?
- Does someone live at the premises/on the course?
- How many holes does the course have?
- How far are the green keepers’ sheds from the main complex?
- Is the course under construction?
