Cyber cover
- Online income is of growing importance for retailers, leading to the increasing importance of a quality cyber policy to cover the online trading risks that a traditional property/liability insurance policy may not.
- Our broker partners tell us that their retail & warehouse customers need a standalone cyber policy to properly meet the needs of their customers.
- That’s why Travelers has partnered with our cyber colleagues to ensure that all standalone cyber products meet the individual needs of retail clients. On request, Travelers can look at specific property, liability and cyber risks for retail clients.
- Visit our cyber insurance page for complete cyber product offerings.
Add-ons & extensions
These items may be available to add on to your policy
Travelers retail cover can also be extended to include:

Business questions
Help us better understand the risk
These questions will give you a sense of the information needed to write a policy.
What is the nature of the products being sold?
Are products imported? If yes, from where?
Is the business responsible for the design and manufacture of the products?
Where and how are products sold?
Are sales made through traditional bricks and mortar retailing, or online?
If products are online, are sales made in the UK only or outside? If outside, which countries?
What are the safety and quality control processes? (This is a question we will ask for some products.)
For all physical stores and warehouses:
- What are the full up-to-date sums insured?
- What is the full construction information?
- What is the full security/fire protection information?
Let's get specific
These are the kinds of detailed questions we will ask to better understand day-to-day operations.
What products are being sold online and, importantly, to which countries around the world?
What are the quality control procedures?
Are there any hold harmless agreements in place?
Are some products ‘own brand’ or otherwise? This is to help understand and underwrite the product’s liability risk.
Is cover required for stock in a warehouse? Is it the business-owned warehouse or a specialist third-party distribution centre?
What are the up-to-date sums insured?
What are the details of security and construction?
The following questions help us understand how the health and safety risk is managed and mitigated in the store estate:
- Is there a senior person responsible at each store?
- Is there a history of EL & PL claims? If so, Travelers will need to go into further detail on health and safety procedures and risk mitigation.
We’ll need to understand how many warehouses the business has and how they form part of their overall business continuity plan:
- If there are multiple warehouses/distribution centres, can the business still operate should one of them be out of action for some time because of a fire or flood?
We’ll also need to understand the business’ fire protections at the warehouses, particularly:
- Is the facility sprinklered or not? And if so, what’s the sprinkler standard?
- Was the sprinkler system designed for the stock and the risk that is faced operating from the premises?
- Is there high bay storage that may impede any sprinkler system?
- Is there any fire separation in the warehouse?
What is the construction of the warehouse? If there are any composite panels, we’ll need to know the core material.
All of this information will help us more accurately assess and underwrite a business.
